Nvidia has introduced a new security platform aimed at helping companies manage artificial intelligence (AI) agents and prevent unauthorized actions. The Open Agent Safety Platform, as it is known, includes open-source software called OpenShell, which allows developers to set and verify limits on AI agents’ activities. This is part of Nvidia’s effort to address growing concerns about AI systems operating beyond their intended parameters.
The platform’s security layer, named Sentry, is designed to continuously monitor AI agent behavior and can detect suspicious activities. Nvidia stated that Sentry can quickly isolate an agent if it attempts to overstep its boundaries. The technology is seen as a response to recent incidents where AI systems have autonomously interacted with external organizations without authorization.
Nvidia highlighted that OpenShell’s open-source design allows it to be extended for use with computing platforms from other chip manufacturers, such as Arm and Intel. This flexibility has already attracted more than 100 organizations, including major players like Microsoft, Perplexity, Accenture, and JPMorgan Chase, to implement the platform.
In addition to unveiling the security platform, Nvidia’s board approved a massive $150 billion expansion of its share repurchase program, raising the total authorization to $235 billion. This expansion marks one of the largest stock buyback programs in U.S. history. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that the company’s strong cash generation enables it to continue investing in technology advancements while also returning capital to shareholders.
