British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s resignation has prompted a wave of commendations from European leaders, leading to the delay of the anticipated EU-UK summit. Starmer has been recognized for his pivotal role in fostering improved relations between the United Kingdom and Europe, particularly in areas concerning security and support for Ukraine.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen lauded Starmer for his contributions to bolstering European and Ukrainian security, noting that his leadership significantly enhanced cooperation. António Costa, the President of the European Council, expressed hope that Starmer’s successor would continue efforts to forge stronger ties with the UK.

Originally set for July 22, the postponed EU-UK summit was to address key issues such as trade agreements, youth mobility, and climate policy cooperation. Despite the political shift in Britain, officials remain committed to advancing relations between the UK and the EU.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also extended praise to Starmer, acknowledging their joint efforts in fortifying European security. Germany hailed Starmer as a dependable ally, especially concerning foreign policy and matters related to Ukraine.

Starmer’s resignation has elicited reactions from leaders globally. Former U.S. President Donald Trump, while wishing him well, critiqued Starmer’s stances on immigration, energy policies, and certain international decisions. Other leaders, including those from Australia and Norway, offered their support and recognized the complexities of political leadership.
