A new $10 million initiative aimed at enhancing food security in Yemen has been launched through a collaboration between the Saudi aid agency KSrelief and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. Each partner will contribute $5 million to the project, which will be executed by the UN World Food Programme across several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij.
The project focuses on delivering conditional cash transfers to boost food accessibility, as well as efforts to rebuild productive infrastructure. By doing so, the initiative seeks to assist families in making the transition from relying on emergency food aid to achieving greater self-sufficiency.
In addition to immediate food security measures, the project will offer vocational training and support for local authorities. It also includes plans to enhance governance and ensure the sustainable management of community resources, thereby promoting long-term resilience in these vulnerable areas.
This agreement is part of Saudi Arabia’s extensive humanitarian endeavors facilitated through KSrelief. Since 2015, the agency has undertaken over 4,400 aid projects worldwide, amounting to more than $8.5 billion in 113 countries, demonstrating its commitment to global humanitarian assistance.
